Barry J. Goldstein, MD, PhD, serves as director of the division of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolic diseases in the department of medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He is also a professor of medicine, biochemistry, and molecular pharmacology at Thomas Jefferson University.
Prior to joining Thomas Jefferson in 1992, Goldstein served as an instructor and assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and as an investigator in the section on cellular and molecular physiology of the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. He has held key research fellowships at Harvard Medical School, the Joslin Diabetes Center, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Goldstein has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including a 1997 fellowship to the American College of Endocrinology and a 1996 election to the American Society for Clinical Investigation. A member of the editorial board for the American Journal of Physiology, Goldstein has published numerous original reports on insulin resistance and other diabetes-related topics.
Goldstein completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and earned his medical degree and a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
