L. Susan Scelzo Slavin

L. Susan Scelzo Slavin is a litigating partner in the Slavin Law Firm, P.C., concentrating in the areas of insurance coverage litigation, employment discrimination, and commercial matters. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston University and her law degree cum laude from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where she was a member of Law Review. In addition to working as an attorney, she is also currently studying at Harvard University's Divinity School.

Slavin is also the community founder of The Breast Cancer Legal Advocacy Project, which has trained over 250 attorneys in Long Island, N.Y. to advocate on behalf of breast cancer patients on a variety of legal issues and was used by the American Bar Association as a model for the creation of a National Lawyers Breast Cancer Project. Slavin has been highlighted in press reports nationwide, including Newsday, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Money Magazine, and the Los Angeles Times. She has also appeared on numerous radio and television programs.

Slavin was recently appointed to the American Cancer Society's Mission 2000. She is a member of the Advisory Counsel of the American Cancer Society, Eastern Division; the Nassau County Breast and Cervical Cancer Advisory Committee; and Cancer Care's Public Policy Committee. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Nassau County Women's Bar Association. She serves on the executive committee of the New York State Bar Association's Health Law Section and is co-chair of its Committee on Consumer/Patient Rights. Slavin also serves on the board of directors of a variety of organizations, including the National Association of Women Business Owners, Long Island Chapter; Women on the Job; and the Nassau Lawyers Association.
