Paul J. McAndrews, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatments for hair loss. He is a clinical professor in the department of dermatology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine and USC/Los Angeles County Medical Center, where he has taught the latest advances and the art of hair transplant surgery for more than 20 years. McAndrews was awarded “Outstanding Teacher Award in Surgical Dermatology.” McAndrews has been the senior medical advisor of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons since 2002.
McAndrews is presently on the Executive Committee of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and will be president in 2020. McAndrews has been president of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS). He wrote the recertification exam that every diplomate of the ABHRS must take to become recertified. He is also an expert medical reviewer for the California Medical Board. McAndrews is the medical director for Stemson Therapeutics, which is the first biotechnology company to use human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to treat hair loss by generating de novo hair follicles and is at the forefront of developing a cure for hair loss.
McAndrews has authored numerous chapters in the major textbooks on hair loss and hair transplants. McAndrews's expertise has taken him around the world and to every continent except Antarctica as a guest lecturer/visiting professor on hair loss and “the art and science of hair transplantation.”
