Probiotics are good bacteria you can get from food, like yogurt. Here's the truth about them. Is yogurt the only food with probiotics in it? Nope. Sauerkraut, miso, aged cheeses, kefir, kimchi, and tempeh are also good sources. Are probiotics in food good for you? Maybe. They might help boost your immune system and overall health, prevent some cases of diarrhea, and ease IBS symptoms.
Are probiotic supplements safe? Not for everyone. They can be risky for people with a long-term health condition. The bottom line-- foods with probiotics is probably fine for you, but talk with your doctor before you try a supplement, especially if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
