What is Eucrisa used for?

Eucrisa (crisaborole) ointment is commonly used to treat atopic dermatitis, a skin condition that can cause an itchy, dry rash with scaly patches or blisters.

Eucrisa may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.

How does Eucrisa work (mechanism of action)?

Eucrisa belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitors. It is believed to increase the amount of a specific chemical in the body that can help reduce inflammation and pain.

How is Eucrisa supplied (dosage forms)?

Eucrisa is available as a 2% topical ointment that is applied to the skin.

How should I store Eucrisa?

Eucrisa should be stored at room temperature, between 68 F to 77 F (20 C to 25 C). It can be exposed to temperatures between 59 F to 86 F (15 C to 30 C) for shorter periods of time, such as when transporting it. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep the container tightly closed.

What are the most common side effects of Eucrisa?

The most common side effect of Eucrisa is pain where the product is applied, which may include burning or stinging. Tell your healthcare provider if you have this side effect and it bothers you.

What are the serious side effects of Eucrisa?

While less common, the most serious side effects of Eucrisa are described below, along with what to do if they happen. 

Severe Allergic Reactions. Eucrisa may cause allergic reactions, which can be serious. Stop using Eucrisa and get help right away if you have any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.

  • Itching, skin rash, or pale red bumps on the skin called hives
  • Reddening or swelling of the skin
  • Breathing problems or wheezing
  • Racing heart
  • Fever or general ill feeling
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Trouble swallowing or throat tightness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness, feeling lightheaded, or fainting
  • Stomach cramps
  • Joint pain

Who should not use Eucrisa?

Allergies to Ingredients. People who are allergic to any of the following should not use Eucrisa.

  • Crisaborole
  • Eucrisa
  • Any of the ingredients in the specific product dispensed

What should I know about Eucrisa before using it?

Do not use Eucrisa unless it has been prescribed to you by a healthcare provider. Use it as prescribed.

Do not share Eucrisa with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. It may harm them.

Keep Eucrisa out of the reach of children.

Eucrisa is for use on the skin only. It should not be used on other areas of the body such as your eyes, mouth, or vagina.

Wash your hands after applying Eucrisa, unless the prescribed treatment area is your hand(s).

What should I tell my healthcare provider before using Eucrisa?

Tell your healthcare provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them determine if Eucrisa is right for you.

In particular, make sure that you discuss any of the following.

Pregnancy. It is not known if or how Eucrisa could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you are or plan to become pregnant.

Breastfeeding. It is not known if Eucrisa passes into breast milk. Tell your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should use Eucrisa while breastfeeding.

Overdose/Missed Dose

What should I do if I accidentally use too much Eucrisa?

If you or someone else has used too much Eucrisa, get medical help right away, call 911, or contact a Poison Control center at 800-222-1222.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Eucrisa?

If you miss your scheduled application of Eucrisa, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed application and follow the original schedule. Do not apply Eucrisa more often than prescribed.
