Uses

Sofpironium is used to treat excessive sweating from your underarms. It works on the sweat glands to reduce sweating. Sofpironium belongs to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics.

How to use Sofpironium 12.45 % (72 Mg/Actuation) Topical Gel With Pump

Read the Patient Information Leaflet and Instructions for Use if available from your pharmacist before you start using sofpironium and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

This medication is for use on the skin of the underarms only. Do not apply this medication to other areas of the body. Follow the instructions for priming the pump if you are using it for the first time.

Do not apply this medication if you have shaved your underarms or applied deodorant within the last 8 hours. Wait at least 30 minutes after exercising, showering, or washing your underarms before applying this medication.

Pump this medication into the applicator cup as directed. Do not pump more than 1 pump of this medication into the applicator at a time. Keeping the applicator level, use it to apply the medication to clean, dry skin of the underarms as directed by your doctor, usually once daily at bedtime. Do not apply to broken skin. Do not spread the medication with your fingers or hand. After applying this medication, rinse the applicator cup with running water and then pat dry with a tissue. Replace the applicator and cap back onto the bottle. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Wait 5 minutes for the application site to dry completely before dressing. This medication is flammable until it dries. Let the medication dry before smoking or going near an open flame.

After applying the medication, do not touch your underarms and wait at least 8 hours before showering or washing your underarms. Do not cover the area with plastic or waterproof bandages unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse.

Side Effects

Redness, burning/stinging, or itching at the application site may occur. Dry mouth or blurred vision may also occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: difficulty urinating (such as weak stream or drips, frequent urination, full bladder).

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Precautions

Before using sofpironium, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: high pressure in the eye (glaucoma), a certain muscle/nerve disease (myasthenia gravis), Sjogren's syndrome, stomach/intestinal problems (such as blockage, ulcerative colitis), difficulty urinating (such as due to enlarged prostate, bladder problems), kidney problems.

This drug may cause temporary blurred vision. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs clear vision until you can do it safely.

Sofpironium may make your body sweat less in areas other than your underarms. This effect may make you more likely to get heat stroke in very warm or hot weather. If you notice you are not sweating on your body in these conditions, stop using this medication. Avoid doing things that may cause you to overheat, such as hard work or exercise in hot weather, or using hot tubs. When the weather is hot, drink a lot of fluids and dress lightly. If you overheat, quickly look for a place to cool down and rest. Get medical help right away if you have a fever that does not go away, mental/mood changes, headache, or dizziness.

Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Overdose

Missed Dose Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage Storage

Store upright at room temperature. This medication is flammable, so keep it away from heat or flame. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
