What is Nemluvio used for?

Nemluvio (nemolizumab-ilto) is commonly used to treat a skin condition that causes a persistent, intense itch called prurigo nodularis.

How does Nemluvio work (mechanism of action)?

Nemluvio works by blocking the effect of a substance called interleukin-31 (IL-31). This substance is normally made by your body and is part of your body’s response to itching and inflammation. Blocking this substance can help treat the symptoms of prurigo nodularis.

What should I know about Nemluvio before using it?

Do not use Nemluvio unless it has been prescribed to you by a healthcare provider. Use it as prescribed.

Do not share Nemluvio with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. It may harm them.

Keep Nemluvio out of the reach of children. Since this medicine may be kept in a refrigerator, take special precautions to keep it away from children who also use the refrigerator.

This medicine is injected under the skin. Make sure that you or a caregiver understands how to properly prepare and use Nemluvio. If you have any questions, talk to your healthcare provider.

If you store Nemluvio in the refrigerator, make sure to take it out of the refrigerator 30 to 45 minutes before administration. This way it can reach room temperature before injecting under the skin. If the medicine is injected while cold, it might cause pain at the injection site.

Do not warm Nemluvio in the microwave, direct sunlight, hot liquid, or any other heat source. This can damage the medicine.

If you store Nemluvio at room temperature, write the date on the pen when you took it out of the refrigerator. It is good for 90 days at room temperature.

Look at the powder and liquid in the pen chamber before using. Do not use Nemluvio if the powder is not white or if the liquid is cloudy or contains visible particles.

Make sure you mix (reconstitute) Nemluvio before using it. Inspect the mixed product before injecting Nemluvio. The solution should be clear, colorless, or slightly yellow. Do not use Nemluvio if the powder is not completely dissolved, or if you see discoloration or floating particles in the solution.

Once you mix Nemluvio, make sure to inject the dose within 4 hours. If it has been longer than 4 hours, throw away the mixed Nemluvio and use a new pen.

Inject Nemluvio into your front upper thigh or abdomen. Avoid injecting too close to the belly button.

Do not inject Nemluvio into your upper arm. This should only be done by your healthcare professional or caregiver.

Use a different injection site each time you use Nemluvio. Do not give the injection into tender areas, bruises, scars, red skin, or stretch marks. If you need to use more than one pen to get your prescribed dose, do not use the same injection site for the second pen. Inject the medicine at least 1 inch away from the first injection site.

Throw away Nemluvio after you give yourself a dose, even if there is medicine left in the pen. Each pen is good for just one use. Dispose Nemluvio in a sharps container or in a household container made of heavy-duty plastic that is able to close tightly and is puncture- and leak-resistant.

Do not use Nemluvio if the pen is broken, damaged, or cracked.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before using Nemluvio?

Tell your healthcare provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them determine if Nemluvio is right for you.
