To treat the pimple like lumps and lesions caused by hidradenitis suppurativa, your doctor may recommend surgery. For short term relief in one area, an incision and drainage procedure can be performed in a doctor's office with local anesthetic.
Another form of minor surgery is called punch debridement, or mini unroofing. With this method, the doctor removes a deep circle in the skin and tissue under it to take out the lesion.
The most extensive procedure is called a wide surgical excision, and it's typically done under general anesthesia in a hospital. Here, the lesions tunnels and scar tissue will be removed. You may need a skin graft to cover up the wound and help it heal.
